At Makeworth Coffee, we believe that sourcing coffee is about more than quality—it's about partnership, purpose, and long-term sustainability. That belief is front and center in our ongoing relationship with CAFÉUNO, a progressive cooperative in El Paraíso, Honduras, and our sourcing partner, the Honduras Coffee Alliance.

Together, we’re proud to offer the Honduras Young Producers Lot, a beautifully sweet and vibrant coffee grown by the next generation of farmers in the region. But this is more than a delicious cup—it’s a signal of what’s possible when the specialty coffee industry chooses to invest in young talent.

The Problem: A Shrinking Generation of Growers

In coffee-growing regions around the world, the average age of producers continues to rise. For many young people in places like Honduras, coffee no longer looks like a viable path. Market volatility, lack of access to resources, and the perception that “farming isn’t the future” have pushed youth away from the land.

CAFÉUNO recognized this challenge early on. In response, they began opening doors for young farmers to not only stay in coffee but thrive in it—with targeted support, training, and access to a more transparent and rewarding supply chain.

The Producers Behind the Cup

This lot comes from Parainema variety coffee grown in El Pescadero, Danlí Municipality. Processed using a washed method and scoring 86.0 on the cupping table, it delivers a layered profile: caramel aroma, citric and honey base notes, subtle floral complexity, and a touch of banana with lively acidity. It’s a cup we’re proud to serve—but the story behind it is what makes it even more meaningful.

CAFÉUNO is a cooperative of cooperatives, made up of 158 members across 11 organizations. It was built with resilience in mind. After a rocky start in 2015, the group has now become a central resource for smaller, underrepresented producers in the region.

Importantly, they’ve prioritized young producers; an effort that’s seeing real traction. More and more youth are now stepping into the supply chain, motivated by the support, structure, and sense of ownership this program provides.

True Transparency in Pricing

Transparency matters: especially for young producers. That’s why we’re proud to share that for this lot, producers were paid $4.04/lb, with a farm-gate price of $3.47/lb for green coffee. Add in $0.57/lb for extra milling, and this total far exceeds commodity pricing.

By paying these prices, we’re not just rewarding quality, we’re building a system that values effort, traceability, and long-term viability.

Why This Lot Matters

In a year where climate pressures reduced CAFÉUNO’s harvest by 24%, and market fluctuations continued to create challenges, this lot reminds us what’s at stake. The young producers behind this coffee are choosing to stay in coffee because they see people; roasters, cafés, and customers who care.

They are innovators, risk-takers, and stewards of the future of coffee. And we believe they deserve every ounce of support.

A Future Worth Brewing

When you enjoy this Honduras Young Producers lot at Makeworth, you're tasting more than great coffee. You're drinking in a story of hope, resilience, and intentional partnership. You’re helping young producers see that coffee can be a career, a calling, and a community they’re proud to be part of.

This is what it means to brew with purpose.
